Lake Naivasha National Park, located in the elevated floor of the Great Rift Valley, is centered around Lake Naivasha—a freshwater lake whose name means “rough water” in the local language. One of the few freshwater lakes in Kenya, it’s surrounded by rich ecosystems including Acacia woodlands, grasslands, and the nearby Mount Longonot, an extinct volcano with dense forest along its slopes.

The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including zebras, antelopes, and abundant birdlife. African fish eagles are often seen swooping down to catch fish from the lake. A highlight is Crescent Island, accessible by boat, where walking safaris allow visitors to get up close to free-roaming herbivores like impalas, wildebeests, and waterbucks in a predator-free environment.
