Samburu National Park
Samburu National Reserve, located in northern Kenya along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, offers a uniquely wild and rugged safari experience. Known for its dramatic landscapes—rocky hills, open plains, and riverine forests—Samburu stands out for its dry, semi-arid terrain and rare wildlife species.
The reserve is home to the Samburu Special Five: the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, gerenuk (also called the giraffe antelope), and Somali ostrich—species not commonly found in southern Kenya. Big cats, elephants, crocodiles, and over 450 bird species also thrive here, supported by the river which is a lifeline in this arid region.
Cultural encounters with the Samburu people, close relatives of the Maasai, add a rich cultural dimension to any visit, showcasing traditional ways of life that have endured for generations.
