Mugahinga Gorilla National Park

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, located in southwestern Uganda, is a small yet captivating gem within the Virunga Mountains, shared by Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Though it covers just 33.7 square kilometers, the park boasts dramatic scenery, including the towering volcanic peaks of Muhabura, Gahinga, and Sabinyo, along with lush bamboo forests and high-altitude vegetation.

Mgahinga is best known for its mountain gorilla trekking, offering a rare chance to observe these endangered primates in the wild. It’s also the only place in Uganda where visitors can see both mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, making it a must-visit for primate enthusiasts. The park also offers volcano hikes, birdwatching, and meaningful cultural encounters with the Batwa, an indigenous forest-dwelling community.
