Queen Elizabeth National Park
True to its name, Queen Elizabeth National Park is the crown jewel of Uganda’s savannah parks and one of the most visited in the country—famous for its impressive wildlife, especially the rare tree-climbing lions. It’s an ideal spot to see several members of the Big Five and enjoy classic African safari scenery.
Located in western Uganda, the park stretches between Lake George and Lake Albert, with the Kazinga Channel cutting through its expansive 700-square-mile landscape. It was named in honor of Queen Elizabeth II after her visit in 1954.
Straddling the equator, the park features equator markers along the road and sits against the dramatic backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains. Its diverse habitats—ranging from rolling savannah and tropical forests to sparkling lakes and lush wetlands—support a wide range of wildlife and bird species, making it a truly exceptional safari destination.
